The ASCO filter-regulator-lubricator (FRL) combination is worth understanding as a set rather than individual parts: the filter removes particulate and condensate, the regulator sets a stable working pressure, and the lubricator (on older pneumatic systems) adds oil mist for cylinder and valve life — most modern pneumatic components are lubricant-free, so check whether your equipment actually calls for the lubricator stage before assuming you need one. SMC's air dryers serve the same air-quality purpose from a different angle, removing moisture at the point of generation rather than downstream.
